Le saxophoniste et compositeur Walter Smith III entre dans une nouvelle ère de sa carrière de chef d'orchestre avec son remarquable nouvel album 'Return to casual' sur Blue Note, la suite tant attendue de son enregistrement autoproduit de 2014 'Still casual'.
L'album comprend huit œuvres originales et un nouvel arrangement. Toutes composées à quelques semaines d'intervalle, celles-ci se superposent, se déplacent, se démantèlent et se réassemblent parmi les collègues artistes du natif de Houston. Reprenant leurs rôles de compagnons d'orchestre, le pianiste Taylor Eigsti, le guitariste Matt Stevens, le bassiste Harish Raghavan et le trompettiste Ambrose Akinmusire révèlent une profondeur expérimentée accompagnée d'une apparition du pianiste James Francies.
